Food Combinations that Alter Digestion

What if we often suffer from bloating, flatulence, constipation, diarrhea, acidity etc.? I am sure no one would want to imagine himself or herself in these type of conditions on regular basis. Sometimes, we are prone to these situations in-spite of having home cooked healthy foods, it’s because of the unknown facts about the digestion of food.
As we all know, foods get sometimes to digest in our body completely. Usually, Fruits take 30 to 60 minutes, vegetables, grains, beans take 1 to 2 hours, proteins take more than 2 hours.
Therefore, some combinations of foods make them unhealthy and unfit for our body.
Here is a list of few unhealthy food combinations.

·        Iron-rich and Calcium rich food: Best example fall under this category is all time favorite Palak Paneer. Though, it’s delicious but accounts for zero nutritional benefits. Spinach is rich in Iron and Paneer in Calcium, but having together, makes it unhealthy as calcium disrupts iron absorption and so as of iron does with calcium.

·        2 protein-rich foods: 2 high protein foods are unhealthy if taken together like chicken and meat, fish and mutton, eggs and milk etc., as they slow down the digestion process because they stay for long time in the stomach which results in fermentation, putrefaction etc. One should eat them alone or should start with plant-based proteins.

·        Liquids and Solids: Liquids like water, Tea, coffee, juice etc. requires very few or no time to digest and pass to the intestine in a very short span of time. When taken with solids, carry digestive enzymes along with them and causes indigestion.

·        Olive oils and nuts: Yummy Salad with Nuts and Olive oils dressings is a mouth-watering dish, but has no nutritional benefits. Nuts are proteins and olive oil used for salad dressing is a raw fat which interferes with the protein digestion and makes it an unhealthy choice.

·        Fruits and Milk: Milk Shakes like Banana Milkshake, it’s common not only in adults but its combination is also given to kids during weaning. Banana and milk cause heaviness, bloating, nausea etc., as it increases the load in the stomach and slows down the digestion process.

These are the just few examples of wrong combinations of food but one should observe the response of his or her body to a particular food group and combination as everybody responds differently to a particular food item and combination.
